Garmin Edge 305 not recognized windows 10

About 2 years ago, I started having problems with my win 10 system recognizing the edge 305 when using both garmin express and training center.  The win 7 system still recognized if just fine.  The only solution I found after trying various updates was to reboot the system, and before doing anything else, connect the device, and then the device was recognized for one or two sync cycles.

As of the latest update from ms for win 10, this no longer works.

Is there anything that will allow me to download data from the device?  I know this is a long standing problem, and none of the solutions I have found on the garmin site or through google have been of any help.

  • I was hoping for a response, but it doesn't appear that garmin in interested in supporting older devices.  Unless I'm missing something, my only options are to maintain a win 7 pc indefinitely, or buy a new device from some other company that is willing to support their products.

  • I have the Forerunner 305 & 205 working on my Windows 10 machine, which are also 15 years old like the Edge. Suggest contacting Garmin Support to report the issue. It's possible the Edge 305 wasn't tested. The older Forerunners were also not working in a previous version of GE. After reporting the issue, the software was updated and now works again, as mentioned here - Garmin Express 7.2 breaks Forerunner 305
