Unable to change maps on Nuvi 50

Using Garmin Express v7.8.1.0 for Windows.

I was able to update my Nuvi 50 with the latest maps, but the region is set to the US 48 Lower. I've installed an SD card and and would now like to install the US Full maps. All of the online docs say to select Map Options -> Change Map, but there is no Change Map option... only an option to Reinstall Map.

The Info page shows the SD card is empty and available.

How do I install the Full Map set?

Map info shows: CN North America NT 2022.20 - Lower 49 States

Which map did your device come with? If it came with that map then that's all you get.

I guess the 49 lower. This is the first time I've updated it, so I'm not really sure. I added the SD card thinking that there would be more detail -- still in the lower 49 I guess -- of the maps... ie maybe more points of interest, or more back roads, etc.

If that's not the case, is there any reason to add an SD card? The info screen says there's ~500MB of internal storage still available.

If it came with that map then it won't update to the full map. If you have 500Mb you'll be good without a card for many years

OK... so, I have another of these GPS's -- same model, same default map "CN North America NT 2022.20 - Lower 49 States" and it's using both internal and SD storage, with 1.6GB free of the internal storage.

In total, I have three of these units -- all bought on the same Black Friday sale several years ago. Two of them won't use the SD storage, but one does. All three have the same map.

Any idea as to why that would be?

If you've loaded the maps using Express it will install the map on the device unless there isn't sufficient space, when it will use the sd card.
