I have a SD card in my Nuvi but there doesn't appear to be any way to install my Maps to the card. Garmin Express defaulted the Map Update install to the Internal Memory (which is not full yet) no mention of the card as an option.
I looked on Garmin's Website it says the G. Express with not install Maps to a card unless there is not enough room to install them in internal memory. Additionally it says you cannot move Maps manually from memory to the card. However Garmin will sell you Maps on a card but I'm not interested in buying another card.
So I tried moving all my Waypoints and Routes from internal memory to the Card and then shut Basecamp and the Nuvi device down. Then with the device still hooked to the Laptop, I used a windows file manager to delete the gpx file from the Nuvi to delete the points and routes from internal memory. (I've done this many times in the past and it always re-creates a gpx file on next power on)
When I turned the device back on I could not see my Waypoints on the device screen Saved items, even though they showed on the card in Basecamp. So I guess the device cannot read point and route data from a card, only internal memory. So much for that effort. I moved the points and routes back to internal memory and they are there again.
My questions are:
(1) If internal memory gets more full won't it slow down the chip's operation like it does in computers with little spare memory? Or maybe Garmin's operation is not like some parts of Windows OS.
(2) Does anyone know a way to get the map update download to install to a card even if internal memory is not full?
