zumoXT no longer visible to PC, Garmin Express, or Basecamp

I have been planning a 14 day trip and due to the Garmin Express issues (can't install map to PC) I have been having to repeatedly connect and disconnect the device.  Yesterday it started disconnecting at the slightest movement of the device or the cable.  Today it won't connect at all.  I guess it has been connected/disconnected one too many times.  I'm pretty certain that the problem is at the device end of the cable.  I tried a different cable that I had used in the past but no joy. 

When the USB cable is connected to the device the zumoXT recognizes that it is plugged in, starts up, and attempts to go into file transfer mode but it dims in about a minute and then goes to sleep a few minutes after that without the PC, Garmin Express, nor Basecamp ever being able to see it.  I leave on my trip two days and had planned on finalizing the routes for the last few days in Basecamp today and then and getting them on the device.  This really sucks! 

Good luck to all who have a zumoXT and do a lot of connects/disconnects to a PC.  Hopefully this problem is just with mine.
