Garmin Express 7.6.0.0 fails to open

After updating from the previous version using the inbuilt updating tool, the program no longer reliably opens usually freezing at the splash screen with no error. I am running up to date Windows 7 X64.

The program opened fine the first time but after being closed, it fails on subsequent attempts - killing the express.exe process in task manager and then re-launching opens the program sometimes but not always. All program settings are at default except allowing express to run in the background which is turned off.

I believe this to be a program bug and wonder if others are having similar issues, and hope that Garmin will look into this matter.

  • OK, I spoke to Garmin several times yesterday. No resolution. I sent my log files to them. If I may be so bold, if some other users with this problem could call in and start tickets, they may finally realize that this is a systemic problem. The more voices they hear the more likely it is they will do something, I feel.

  • Hi Everyone:

After sending the logs in, the last time I attached my watch to my Windows 7 PC I was prompted to update my software.  did. It now appears to work. I had to add my watch. Strangely, though, there is also a symbol for a ship's steering wheel so I can add my vessel. Odd, but it works.

  • Garmin have reverted to Version 7.5.0.0

I noticed the update available message no longer pops up every time express is opened.

To confirm: I downloaded Garmin Express from their website, when ran it told me I already had version 7.5.0.0 installed.

  • I had some similar issues with 7.6.0.0 reliably opening but after I did the Win 10 update this past Tuesday (06/08) it seems to be very reliable.  Having said that I haven’t connected a device since the Windows update.

  • I should also add, that the "update" is the version 7.5.0. I find it hard to believe that they just sent me an "update" to roll back the version, but perhaps they have such power?

  • Did you noticed that after the issues with Garmin Express (downgrade to 7.5 from 7.6) the serial number on the device (I have Fenix 6X) is totally different then in the Garmin Connect? On top of that GE does not see the watch and when I try to add it, it shows the watch but is not able to add the device as the Garmin servers are down. However, when checking the servers status all appears to be up and running.

  • yeah noticed, and more than a week ago I contacted with support, they adviced me the same things that I did (only I could not try it on a different computer), they composed a problem record for me with the logs from my comouter and screenshots, but I could not have return for 10 days. I think I have to wait for new and clean version of the GARMIN EXPRESS

  • I left 7.6.0.0 in place and waited to update to 7.7.0.0 which I've now done - still the same problem. The app opened after installation, but failed to reopen after it was closed. This issue is still present and needs to be addressed by Garmin urgently.

  • Today after updating to 7.7.0 and new maps I found issues with GE 7.7.0 reliably opening.  I would get the splash screen, then nothing.  I run GE from a desktop icon; after deleting it and creating a new one GE seems to be fine.

  • yes, I upgraded GE 7.7.0 also, at first it did not work, but afther that I restart the pc and then I use the GE as admin directly, then I manage to add my watch and log in succesfully.

It seems GE 7.7.0.0 solves the issue!
