Garmin Express 7.6.0.0 fails to open

After updating from the previous version using the inbuilt updating tool, the program no longer reliably opens usually freezing at the splash screen with no error. I am running up to date Windows 7 X64.

The program opened fine the first time but after being closed, it fails on subsequent attempts - killing the express.exe process in task manager and then re-launching opens the program sometimes but not always. All program settings are at default except allowing express to run in the background which is turned off.

I believe this to be a program bug and wonder if others are having similar issues, and hope that Garmin will look into this matter.

  • Also on Windows 7 (tried and really hate windows 10), Garmin Express auto update (manual accept) to 7.6.0.0, update installed and worked until the machine was shut down.

Then g start and garmin express did not work (failure to recognise/acknowledge devises and manual start of express total fail) after next start up and multiple reboots.

Now fixed by reverting to previous version (7.5.0.0):

from windows control panel uninstall garmin express, did not select delete all express data, apparently no loss of login or device data

I have culled (deleted to recycle bin) the 7.6.0.0 folder from the ProgramData>GARMIN>CoreService>Downloads>Application>  and have run 7.5.0.0 .exe file, couldn't find the older version on the garmin website, but must admit I didn't look too hard.

Garmin Express 7.5.0.0 re installed and it works (no worse than it did before).

Now ignoring the "new version" message on Garmin Express until they firstly acknowledge they have *** up (yet again) and have fixed their *** up.

  • Running Windows 10. Garmin Express auto-updated to 7.6.0.0, failed to detect my device (Fenix 6). Uninstalled. Installed GE from Garmin website, still failed to recognize device. Uninstalled again (all uninstalls and re-installs were accompanied by computer restarts). Installed earlier version of GE, 7.1.3.0, and it detected and added my Fenix 6 before forcing a mandatory update to 7.4. This version failed to open. Repeated this, and each time 7.4 failed to open. Uninstalled, reinstalled 7.6.0.0 (twice), now this version fails to progress past the launch screen

  • I am having the same problem. I found a site with older version, but the one I tried will not open in Firefox. That sucks. I really only use Firefox. I am running Windows 7, as well. This may be a more widespread problem in a few days.

  • Yup, same here. Did a clean install and problem still persists, just sits there with the loading screen and never actually opens.

  • I called Garmin first thing upon waking. I had just opened my PC. I installed the latest version of Express. Of course, it worked whilst the support agent was on the line. Subsequently, I shut off my PC and went out for some exercise. Upon returning. Garmin would not do anything. I double-clicked the little icon and there was a brief moment of the spinning buffering circle and that was all. I have a suspicion that shutting down the PC and reinstalling the program will, once again, work until the PC is powered off. Obviously, this is less than an ideal solution. I will call Garmin again tomorrow. One thing I have learned, if I ever get a version that works, I will never update it.

Is it possible to revert to an older version? I cannot find any older version on the Garmin site.

  • Same here, remove Garmin Express from WIn10 PC, reinstalled, and for now, it seems to be working again.

  • Oh, not anymore, stopped detecting new devices and refuses to upload the one devices it already detected. Hoe Garmin comes up with a fix soon.

  • I will definitely post what Garmin tells me tomorrow. I am a huge fan, but this is the worst update yet.

  • Not seen any issues. Working perfectly with all 7 of my devices, both on the road and on the trail devices.

  • absolutely smae thing, I re updated the 7.5.0.0 to 7.6.0.0 again, and then it sucks again Slight smile
