Version 7.6.0.0 now available

Version 7.6.0.0 is now offered on Garmin Express. Was not a forced update for me. Info is in release notes above. I installed update with no problems so far.

  • Be careful - this is NOT(!) a Garmin site! I think, somewhere here in the forum i did read from a user who downloaded an older version from there, that he has problems with some strange advertises after installing the program...

Better to look in the path i posted above - this are the 'real' programs and every time a new version will be downloaded by the update-routine from Garmin Express, a copy of the installer will be saved there - so this a definitiv safe to look for older versions.

  • Thanks for the warning. But my ...\CoreService directory does not contain a Downloads  directory.  Do you know of any place I can get an older version?

(Actually I hoped someone from Garmin would have read this and profided me with a site within  the Garmin-company which holds an older version.

  • I have most of the macintosh versions and many for Windows. Just let me know what you'd like to try.

  • I think any 7.4.x.x  will do.  (for windows)   It is just until they fixed the 7.6.0.0 version.

  • Do you have a 7.4.x.x for windows?   and is there anyway for me to get at it?

  • Updated to 7.6.0.0, restarted the computer, and after that Express kept asking my password. After 16 times giving the password I just clicked the dialogscreen away and suddenly it connected to my Edge 1030 Plus. Then it stated a mapupdate is available, but when clicking Install, i get the passwordscreen again and again. So now I have a 600,- device that can't update to recent maps. Please fix this!!!!

  • Thanks Allory it worked. It wasn't as shiny and bright as you could hope, but it did the trick.

Below I will tell what happened, just as a reference to someone with a similar problem wanting to try this as well.

    1. I downloaded the 7.4.0.exe
      2. Since Allory told me a few entries ago, he had a downloads directory especially for Express, this seemed like a good idea.
      3. Made a ...\Garmin\Coreservice\downloads directory. (proofed not to be a good idea)
      4. placed the 7.6.0.0 and the 7.4.0   installers in there.
5.Started the 7.4.0 installer.   It told me there is already an Express available so no install necessary. (This is logical. Newer versions know of old ones. In general, old versions don't know of any newer ones. (Unless you have very clever programmers))
      6. I removed the already installed version (7.6.0.0). I found that it also removed the complete ...\Coreservice directory  (and thus my 7.4.0 installer, a minor hiccup)
      7. I downloaded it again, this time making sure Garmin can't get at is.  (Just don't put i in the ..\Garmin directory)
      8. Started the installer, it told me it had 5 updates. 4 taking a minute each, the map update taking 2 hours (proofed to be 24 minutes)
      9. After the 4 quick updates it told me to disconnect the "Drive50" and reconnect after 5 seconds.  This is where it got a little bumpy.
    2. After reconnecting, the computer did not recognize the "Drive50", not even after a wait of 10 minutes. (The "Drive50" itself did show the 'connected' screen.)
      11. I disconnected the "Drive50" navigator and waited, nothing happened. I tried using the 'on' button, ... nothing. Tried the on button a few times, it then started.
      12. I waited till it was ready, then I used the on-button to shut down the navigator. It then showed a message: "updating software" and after 30 seconds it closed down.
      13. I reconnected the navigator, it was recognized by my computer (after 50 seconds) and immediately thereafter by Express which then started the map update.
      14. 25 minutes later I was a happy man. Now I tried to check if indeed there was a newer version of the map on my navigator. (this again was not easy going)
      15. I hoped to see in the menu: 'map updates' the name of the last update. No such luck.  I checked the registration info of the navigator itself. There were some new references (2021)
      16. I concluded it probably was successful. I then checked some new roads in my neighbourhood and they were there. So Success.
      17. Then I started the Basecamp program and it immediately uploaded the new map from my navigator. There I could see the name of the map update so proof the update I requested, was done.

The last step was not actually necessary but it does give you the correct name of the update you received. I would have liked to see the name in either Express or better still the navigator itself.
So that after 20 months or so I can do a quick check to see what my last map update is.
But, I am very happy this succeeded.
Thanks again very much for helping Allory, may you farewell.

  • Thanks for the followup info. I've never been totally fluent in Windows, and since retiring several years ago I don't even have access to a Windows machine.
