Garmin nuvi 2340 Software Update Failure

Software VER: 3.7

Map VER: Western Map Europe 2021.10

Garmin Express VER: 7.4.2.0

Ooooodles of free space on the memory card

Windows 10 64bit VER: 20H2 complete with all updates.

I've had this device for a good few years and this is the first time i've had an issue with it.

When i plug in the satnav into the desktop PC, garmin express starts as expected and tells me there are two updates.

TrafficProvider VER:  5.00 and ProximityText VER: 3.7

I install them, and they appear to install without error.

However....... I'm asked to install the same two updates every time i plug the device into the desktop PC and the process repeats itself.

I've tried running Garmin Express "As Administrator" and this doesn't solve the problem either.

Any ideas' anybody?

  • Have you allowed the device to start and get a satellite lock after the update?

    I'll try that now......

    Switched it on outside and achieved a connection to satellites.

    re plugged it into PC and Garmin Express wants to install the same updates.

  • That's weird. Next thing to check is free space on the device? If it's limited that prevents the correct GarminDevice.xml being written, and its that file which has the detail of your device. Try deleting the file from the Garmin folder on your device then try again, note that if it's showing as a file of 0kb it's definitely the issue.

  • On the first drive there is 2.73GB of free space, on the second drive there is 26.5GB of free space.

    GarminDevice.xml is 28kb in size with today's date. Rather than delete it i have changed it's name to GarminDevice.xml.bk so i can restore it later if required and then i'll try again.

    Having done this Garmin Express is now asking me to "Plug in Your Device" and it's searching for it.

    Unplugged it, plugged it back in, and it finds it and recreates the GarminDevice.xml file of 28kb in size.

    Disconnected the device and turned it on outside.

    Reconnected to PC, and it still wants to install the same two updates.

  • Then I'm out of ideas,  probably a bug in Express. You'll need to contact Product Support for help.

  • Thank you so much for your help, never mind.  I'll await further help from others.  How do i contact Garmin Support though as i've looked and can't find a way to do this.

  • Depends where you are but see Garmins website for your country
