Nuvi 52 "Update Successful!" but Offers Same Updates Again...

We are trying to update an old but like-new Nuvi 52 that has not been updated in a few years. Garmin Express seems to be working as expected, it finds the device, copies updates and shows "Update Successful!" but the updated versions do not show up in the device and Garmin Express then tries to update the exact same files all over again. Device storage at 47%. Have performed various troubleshooting steps:

  • Deleted previous xml file and 'restored' device
  • Turned off virus
  • Installed Garmin Express latest Windows version as administrator
  • Reinstalled Garmin Express as administrator
  • Rebooted PC a number of times
  • Tried different USB ports
  • Used different USB cables

What are we missing here? How can we get this device to retain the updates?

    You don't list rebooting your 52 after the update, have you done that?

    If so and it's still not updating check the Garmin folder on your device, if the update file transferred you should see a gupdate.gcd file there with the current date/time stamp. Is it there?

    Following the screen prompts, we rebooted every time after the software updates. The Garmin folder only has one file: GarminDevice.xml which is 26kb and is the file we deleted - but it has reappeared with the original time stamp...maybe a clue?

    That's nothing to do with the update file, which will be named as I posted. If its not there it's not been installed to your device. Are you running the latest Express version?

    We downloaded and ran as administrator Garmin Express windows version 7.4.1.0 yesterday for the first time. After it became apparent that the software downloads were repeating we tried troubleshooting steps which included deleting and reinstalling GE. When we again ran it as admin, it downloaded the software "Update Successful" but the files did not appear on the device...

    Well that's very strange. If the gupdate.gcd file isn't reaching the Garmin folder it can't update. Long shot, you don't have a sd card installed do you? If so check the Garmin folder there.
