Forerunner 30 not updating time.

Hello all. Back after a few years away. I have a new Forerunner 30, but after charging it and syncing it with my Windows 10 laptop it refuses to update the time, as though the PC is not talking to it. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

  • AFAIK it won't get current time from a PC. Either sync it with a smartphone, or go outside and get a GPS fix.

Thanks. The manual is extremely confusing. The watch seems not to be talking to my computer even though it has updated the software. It's not showing my steps either.  I don't have a smartphone and although the GPS got a fix the time still didn't update. I'll struggle on for a bit longer.

I assume you have Garmin Express installed. Did you manage to add the watch to Garmin Express?

It's not showing my steps either.

The watch isn't showing your steps or the computer? Garmin Express won't show you any fitness data. In order to see them on your computer you need to use your favourite web browser and log in to your Garmin Connect account.

Make sure your time is set to "Auto" before trying a GPS time sync.

Yes, both Express and Connect are installed with an account set up and seem to be working, but the steps on the watch are not shown on the PC. On the Express app, the watch is shown as connected (or it was....) but still nothing on Connect.  Shortly after my last post, the watch decided to get stuck on a language selection menu with no way out. Shortly after that, Express told me the watch was no longer connected and attempts to re-connect it proved fruitless.

So it's gone back in its box I'm afraid with the language page still stubbornly stuck. This watch was my 'last ditch' solution to my no-smartphone, no touchscreen preference, there doesn't appear to be any good-looking alternative. Looks like it's back to my old Omron pedometer and conventional watch! Thanks anyway.

Looks like something's wrong with your watch.

I've been successfully using a Forerunner 735XT without a smartphone. I believe the issues you experience are not related to not having the watch paired to a smartphone, but rather are of different nature.

Thanks all. IMO this watch is faulty, and it's the third Garmin to fail us. My wife has had two Garmins that have failed to work reliably with her smart phone and now this.

Thanks for your patience, but it's going back. A real shame as I like the look and the nice display.
