Garmin Express not detecting my Nuvi 2597 LMT

Yesterday I had my Nuvi 2597 connected to my Windows 10 laptop with no issues. Garmin Express and Basecamp both detected my GPS, and I was able to create a route in Basecamp and move it to my GPS' SD card. 

Today, I connected my GPS to my computer, but neither Express nor Basecamp are detecting it. 

When I plugged the GPS in to my laptop, the display on my Nuvi did change, almost immediately, to the garmin.com/express logo, which is normal when connected. After no connection for about ten minutes, I double checked both software applications were up-to-date (they were) and that Windows was up-to-date (it was). 

I restarted my laptop (cold boot), waited five minutes to ensure all background apps loaded, then plugged my Nuvi in. Logo on screen changed, as expected, but after 45 minutes, the Express and Basecamp apps are still not detecting the GPS. 

What's next on my list of things to try?
