Connecting to Garmin Express Causes Watch Reboot

If I connect my 945 via USB to my PC (without GE running), I can see and move around in the directory structure as expected. Once I open Express, the syncing process hangs with an eventual reboot of the watch. This has happened on two different PCs, so I think it's something to do with the file structure of the watch.

Everything worked just fine until today.

  • I had a similar issue with a VA1 a few years ago. With the help of Garmin support, I solved it by doing a chkdsk /F from a cmd line on the Garmin drive.

  • Sounds like a good idea.  However, the 945 show up as a device in Windows 10 unlike a drive with other devices (Instinct, Edge 830...).  I still have an occasional reboot of the the 945 when connected/syncing with Express, other times the sync will complete.
