Cannot install 7.1.4.0

I'm having a problem upgrading to 7.1.4.0 (from 6.21.0.0) on Win 8.1 - never had a previous problem.

Installation stops about 2/3 of the way through with the error:

"The specified path 'C:\Windows\Installer\Config.Msi\' is unavailable"

The path is correct, and I've played about with permissions till I'm blue in the face.

Won't even install in safe mode, as administrator, or anything else that I can try.

Ideas, anyone?

There was a time when Garmin had a FAQ called "What should I do if the computer cannot find the .msi file when updating a Garmin Software Application?" but I can't seem to access it now. It did have a solution for me when I needed it a few years ago. Good luck.

Thanks for that - I did see that yesterday, but was a bit reluctant to completely uninstall as I was worried about not being able to install any version if that didn't work! (Tried to upgrade mapinstall today too - same error.)
