Map installation reports inadequate space on nüvi 2475LT

The unit is a United States and Ireland and UK unit. Garmin Express installed the updated European maps but reported it did not have enough space to install the latest US maps. Previously the US maps were installed on an installed 32 GB SD card but on this occasion the card was not "seen".

I have had practically no support from Garmin UK and I tried MapInstall instead to see if I could get the maps onto the SD card. That made a real mess of things. The only advice I got from Garmin support was about deleting map files and informed not to delete a gmapprom.img file. I could not find that file.

How can I fix this problem? Would doing a factory reset return the unit to the original setup including the original maps so I could attempt to update to the latest ones? How would I direct Garmin Express to install a map on the SD card?

  • It would appear that either I didn't do it correctly or the information I was following was not relevant to my model.

All that's on the SD card is:

    .System

    Garmin

    System Volume Information

    BOOTEX.LOG

    TempChecklfDevielsLocked.txt

  • Which sd card are you talking about. Did you create a cloned device? This is a separate usb stick or memory card. You run Express with only the cloned device connected and Express should then update that with all the relevant map files. Once that is complete the next step is to copy the relevant files to your device and the card installed in it.

  • I think I followed the instructions very carefully. Some of the information didn't make sense such as log into my.Garmin.com and scan for devices. Neither were available when I got into my account.

I will now redo the whole thing and see if that improves anything.

  • I cannot find the "myDashboard tab. the myMaps tab does not give me the option 2 (Map update installer). Instead it tells me to use Garmin Express. That I did before and will now do again.

  • It now reports that the map(s) are installed on the SD card and that the .img, the .gma and .unl files are installed in the Garmin folder. They are not. They are in the .System folder. There is nothing in the Garmin folder except the xml file which I copied from the unit as instructed.

  • On the nuvi there are only two files which I presume are related to the maps. The gmapprom.img file is not there. The other two files are gmapprom1.gma and gmapprom1.unl so I did not delete them.

Finished now and still no US maps on the unit.

  • You're still confusing me. Please take it one step at a time. Forget your nuvi. Create a clone either on a memory stick or card. Run Express and it should see the clone, don't even have your nuvi connected. Let it install maps to the clone. Once you've done that come back with what folders and files you see in the clone.

You should be using this as your reference www.poi-factory.com/.../39231

  • I'm sorry if I have you confused. I'm about nuts at the moment.Folders on the SD card are:

    .System

    Garmin

    System Volume Information

The System folder has the subfolders JCV, SID and SQLite folders and a .express.

It also has the gmapprom.img, gmapprom.gma and gmapprom.unl which I renamed as instructed to gmapsupp.img or gma or unl. The gmapprom.img/gmapsupp.img file is 3,311,808 KB.

I did not have the nuvi connected when running the Garmin Express. It saw the SD card as the nuvi and appeared to go through the installation of the US map files.

  • So that's a separate and blank card you used?  Now just follow the instructions in the POI factory webpage to copy the maps etc to the sd card in your nuvi.

  • Now I'm confused. I followed all the instructions and the maps were installed onto the 32GB SD card.

My understanding of what I read/followed of the instructions in the POI Factory webpage was to take that SD card when the maps were installed and insert it directly into the nuvi and all should then work.

I did all that but the nuvi on the one hand, following your previous instructions regarding the Developer options, can see the SD card and how much of it is used and how much is free. On the other hand it seems the nuvi operating or map display system can not see the SD card.

I still wonder if it would be more useful to do a factory reset and then try the download/install of the latest maps. Hopefully it would be able to send the relevant map(s) to the SD card.
