Map installation reports inadequate space on nüvi 2475LT

The unit is a United States and Ireland and UK unit. Garmin Express installed the updated European maps but reported it did not have enough space to install the latest US maps. Previously the US maps were installed on an installed 32 GB SD card but on this occasion the card was not "seen".

I have had practically no support from Garmin UK and I tried MapInstall instead to see if I could get the maps onto the SD card. That made a real mess of things. The only advice I got from Garmin support was about deleting map files and informed not to delete a gmapprom.img file. I could not find that file.

How can I fix this problem? Would doing a factory reset return the unit to the original setup including the original maps so I could attempt to update to the latest ones? How would I direct Garmin Express to install a map on the SD card?

  • Yes. It shows both.

Device Storage is 90% full - 753.94 MB free.

SD card 0% full - 31.91 GB free.

The version of Express is 6.21.0.0 which I believe is the latest version.

  • That's your issue then, you're running an old version of Express. Update it then try again to install the maps.

  • Upgraded now to 7.1.4.0. Update still failed.

  • Not sure why it's not now updating. Next thing to try is using the cloning method to update the maps, google 'poi factory cloning' for instructions

  • OK. I am part way through the instructions. However, a few questions before I begin deleting:

On the unit in the Garmin folder I only have GarminDevice.xml; gmapprom1.gma and gmapprom1.unl.

Should I delete these files as they have different names from the instructions on the poi cloning instructions? (Item 7 on the list)

I do not have a \JVC or \ASR folder on the unit but I do have a \JVC on the SD card.

On the SD card I have a \.System, and under it I have \JVC, \SID, and \SQLite folders.

There is also the Garmin folder at the root which I created and contains nothing other than the GarminDevice.xml file which I copied to it.

I presume it is safe to follow the renaming of files as stated on item 9 and copy them to the unit.

  • Each can be different depending on the maps and device. However you can't do any harm if you copy and make a mistake as you can always try again. The JVC and ASR folders in your device are in the .system folder, if you can't see the .system folder you need to set Windows to show hidden and system folders, note that is 2 different settings

  • I have Windows 10 Explorer set to view all files and extensions as well as system files. I cannot see any .System folder on the unit. There is one on the SD card but not on the unit. Would that cause my problems?

On the unit the \Garmin folder has two sub folders: \Diag and \LEX_PKG.

The unit is still not showing the US maps. Under Utilities it shows the SD card as having 16% full and 26.72 GB free.

I still cannot see the .System, JVC or ASR folders on the unit.

  • If you can't see the .system folder then Explorer probably isn't set to show hidden files and also set to show system files.  If you're sure it is you will need to set your nuvi to mass storage rather than mtp mode.

    2. Start NUVI by itself and go to Volume Screen.
    3. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
    4. The Developers Screen will pop up
    5. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
    6. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
    7. Shut down NUVI and hookup to Computer USB cable
    8. Start NUVI and it should recognize it is hooked up to the computer.
    9. Explorer will now see all files in ROOT directory and the .System directories.

  • However I'm unclear what you've done. What was loaded to your cloned device?  I'd expect to see both maps installed to your clone, are you able to list what was installed? If done correctly both maps should be on your clone, did that happen?

  • Done that and still no sign of the ASR folder.
