Can't update, boot loop "loader loading..."

I have a nuvi 1490t. It has system version 4.3/4.4. using Win 10 PC. It is in need of an system update. I downloaded Garmin Express successfully. I attached my 1490 and it is recognised. Express has informed that there are 2 updates, a system update to of version 6.3 and a "Proximity Tex, GLX, all Language" update version 3.70. I attempted 3 times to do these updates. When I am prompted to turn off, disconnect and restart the 1490 it goes into a boop loop and displays "loader loading...". I am able to get out of the loop by following prescribed procedures to restart with finger on upper left corner of the screen holding, release after 30 sec, etc. the end result is i have functional GPS with out of date operating system and maps. Do iI need to update to a lower version before 6.3 or is there another issue? What is my next step(s)?

  • Sounds like the update file is corrupted. Connect it to your PC and delete the update file, it's called gupdate.gcd and I think on the 1400 series is in the Garmin folder. Then check your device runs correctly.  Reinstall the update again and ensure you safely eject the device from your PC

SUSSAMB, thank you for the response.

I have followed the instructions provided this morning - several times. the results appear are the same.

I removed the file the"GUPDATE.GCD" file from ".System" folder. In all 5 attempts, the the file has/had a modification date of 9/7/20 (today is 9/12/20). I again followed the instructions to connect and download. I ejected the nuvi 1490 device via the file manager menu (right click - eject). After a moment the nuvi drive disappears from the file manager screen. The nuvi device begins to reboot on its own. I then unplug the USB cable from the PC. The 1490 is already displaying the splash screen. I'll wait the 5 seconds and plug in the USB cable the PC. A moment after the screen is still displaying the splash screen with the addition of the "LOADER LOADING..."

THing that make you go "Hum"

  • Why are you replugging it into your PC? Once disconnected let it continue to go through the process and install the software update. Only once that is completed reconnect it to update the map.
