Unable to connect to Garmin Express

I have a Garmin GPSMap64st that has been having problems connecting to my computer via a USB cable. Whenever I try to connect it I receive the message "USB device not recognized. The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it."

I do a lot of hiking and have always been able to download my tracks to my computer or routes that other people have shared on certain websites.

After uninstalling the GPS and reinstalling it with the same results, I came to the conclusion that the GPS port is damaged so I decided to take another approach. I purchased an adapter for the micro-SD card which arrived in the mail today. I put the micro card in the adapter and inserted it in the memory card reader slot. I went to Garmin Express clicked on "Add A device" and received a message that reads "Plug in a device, ANT stick, or memory card." After searching for about a minute, it took me to a page that asks "What are you trying to add?" The process keeps repeating itself. The GPS for my car is installed at Garmin Express but I performed that task with a USB cable.

I think I might have found a way around the problem at Garmin BaseCamp  When I click on Device at the top of the page and then select "Receive from device" the memory card pops up and gives the option "receive data from selected device." Since the memory card is acting as a substitute for my GPS device this would seem to be a way around using the USB cable. The reason I hesitate to try this method is the amount of data I have stored on the micro-SD card that has already transferred over to Garmin BaseCamp. I assume if I proceed with the transfer, everything will end up at Garmin BaseCamp in duplicate. I only want to transfer tracks that I have completed in the last month.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
