+ Device on Garmin Express for PC will no find my device when connected via USB cable

I have installed Garmin Express onto my laptop. I've connected my Garmin 530 via its USB cable to my laptop and selected '+DEVICE'.

Garmin Express searches for my device and defaults to the help screen.

I select the Garmin device from the list of models and click search.

We then go back to the Garmin Express help screen and are stuck in a search loop.

Any suggestions??

found answer. Using wrong USB cable.
