25Mbit connection but still <5MB/s download speed when updating maps - 3hrs+

It does not seem to be a new issue, but as I am experiencing extremly slow downloading from Garmin servers again today: Is there any way to update maps faster? Waiting for more than 3hrs just to update the maps on a DriveAssist 51 is far too long.

it depends not on your bandwith, it depends of the bandwith of the server where you download!

Try the steps in this FAQ, normally maps take about 30 minutes to download and install so something is wrong within your system somewhere.

I have a DSL connection and I expect it take a while to download a new map but Express says six hours!!! And the progress bar is now going up in hours, not down!! Two hours later and it increased to six hours, 34 minutes.

To make matters worse, the download has crashed several times since last night requiring me to start over.

Something is wrong with the Garmin server or Express.

If that was the case we'd all have issues, but very few have. Try the FAQ I linked to above, if that doesn't help call Garmin so they can do some detailed troubleshooting of your system.
