Course creation in Garmin Express

I created a Hiking Course in Garmin Express, saved it, and then clicked on "Send to my Device." I received an error msg saying no device found; however, my device is connected to Garmin Express/Connect.  I could download the GPX file and then upload it to my device, but why should I have to do those extra steps when the "Button" is there to make this more seamless.  Why is the link not working? is it a known issue or something I'm doing wrong?
