Map from damaged device to new device

My original new Garmin device came with Canada Topo maps with lifetime updates...but the device power connection broke after a while and I had to purchase another new Garmin device that arrived with US Topo map. Is is possible to copy my Canada Topo maps that existed on damaged device (I saved a copy on hard drive) into my new device and activate them so they work on new device? I still have records of Canada Topo CODE# as well as UNLOCK CODE#. Thanks.

  • This will depend on how it's locked, your best bet is to try and see what happens.  Did you buy the new one through Garmin and return the broken one?  If so they normally switch any maps to the new device, but it sounds from what you say you didn't do this?

My 1st device was GPSMAP 64st purchased from GPSCity.ca in 2014 then died in 2018. My present device is Montana 880t purchased from Amazon.ca last year that contains US Topo Pro. No, I did not send GPSMAP 64st to anyone to fix it because could cost a lot...I guess. So now I cannot use my Canada Topo maps that came with GPSMAP 64st but still have their copies on my PC and can copy to SD card in Montana but Montana cannot see them. Because Canada Topo maps came with lifetime updates I ask Garmin to guide me so I can continue using them on my Montana 680t. That would be best. Thanks.

  • Unfortunately 'lifetime' maps apply for the life of the device, they are not transferrable to another, so if you want the Canada topo maps you'll need to purchase them, or alternatively use a free OSM map.
