Problem loading map onto Nuvi2599.

Map file is going to PC hard drive and not device even though it says it's sending it to SD card. I have been on chat with Garmin and done everything they have suggested including formatting the SD card but after every update (which is taking around 4 hours each time) the device says Map Data Not Available.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, it works fine when my GPSMap is connected to Basecamp so hopefully if this download works I'll be able to get it onto the Nuvi. If not, can I put it onto the SD card in Basecamp and then put the card in the Nuvi?

  • Well if Express was trying to use the SD card that's normally because there isn't sufficient space on the device,  The EU map file these days is split into 2, since otherwise it would breach the 4Gb limit allowed under FAT32.  Most older devices require one half on the device and the other on the card.  I'm not clear from your description if you still have half the map file (the northern bit) on your device?  If so you will need to use the card.  Note don't try to install the full EU map to your card, as it will fall foul of the 4Gb rule I mentioned.  Install just the part you need right now for your trip.

Incidentally I assume your version of Express is up to date?  Some earlier versions failed to install the second part of the EU map.

I'm using v6.19.4 of Garmin Express. When the Garmin Chat guy said to re-fomat the SD card I lost the Europe north map. There are no Europe maps on either the internal memory or the SD card now.

If you haven't had enough of this by now I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow....we're in holiday accommodation with VERY slow internet

    Thanks again

  • That could be the issue, system requirements for Express state 'high speed internet access':

    System Requirements

    Windows

    • Windows 7 SP1 or newer, Microsoft .NET 4.5.2 (included)
    • 1024 x 768 display, USB port and 1 GB RAM
    • High speed Internet access (Not for use with dial-up, mobile or satellite connections)
    • May require up to 20 GB free disk space

    Hi SUSSAMB,

Good news! The download to my PC completed OK. I connected the Nuvi to the PC with the cable for the GPSMap62S and opened Basecamp. In the left hand column I selected the SD card for the download and got the message that the Europe City Navigator Map would be added. It took a while but I now have the WHOLE of Europe on the Nuvi again.

As you've probably guessed, I've no idea how much of this stuff works but thanks to you we'll be able to navigate our way around Italy and get back home to Scotland.

Thank you once again for your help.
