Garmin express missing days of data after syncing

Hi, on a Fenix 5 I noticed this recently now I see it regularly: I only use Garmin express to sync about once every week or less frequently. (no updating over wifi or BT on mobile). The steps counts is 0 except for the days when I sync. Is this behavior new? Thanks!
