Unable to install Garmin Express 6.17.0.0

Went to use Garmin Express the other day and found it was rather out-of-date. Not a problem - downloaded the latest version (6.17.0.0) and launched the install. I received an error message - "Install Failed. Garmin Express could not be installed on this computer. Try installing again".

So I tried installing again. Same result.

I tried installing as an Administrator. Failed install.

I changed compatibility settings and tried again. Failed install.

I tried uninstalling the previous version as I thought this maybe the cause but this would not work as Windows/Garmin announced that this was not possible (I forget the exact message). Used Revo Uninstaller and removed all trace of GE from this PC.

I downloaded the latest version of GE again (just in case I had a bad file) and tried installing again as an Administrator. Failed install.

I disabled my anti-virus and firewall in case they were the problem. Attempted the installation again and got the same result - Failed Install.

I don't know what else to try - does anyone have any useful suggestions?

How are you trying to run as administrator? Are you right clicking the exe file and selecting run as administrator?

Yes, I right-click and run the exe as Administrator.

Are you downloading Express from the Garmin site?

Yes, I have downloaded GE 6.17.0.0 from the Garmin site.

Then I'm out of ideas, call Garmin so they can help you troubleshoot your system

Hi, I had the same issue... installation stopped/rolled back, I could neither update/install or uninstall Garmin Express any more.

check the garmin installer logfile in the temp folder (typically C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp
In my case it revealed, that the installation of vc_redist.x86.exe (MS Visual C++ redistributable components) failed with error code 0x80070666.
This error code means, that there is already another vc_redist.x86.exe installed, which is incompatible for some reason (for software development, I had a newer preview version installed)
On the command line, uninstall the existing version: "vc_redist.x86.exe /uninstall" and reboot the PC. You may find the .exe somewhere on the PC or you have to download the latest version.
Install Garmin Express again. Worked without issues now.
Re-install the latest vc_redist.x86.exe again. Some other software on the PC may depend on it.

I have the same issue as TS. But I just reboot my PC and I can update Express without this annoying error. Maybe I have another issue. Will check your idea in the next time. Thanks.
