Can't update etrex 30 from firmware 2.50 to 4.90

I'm trying to update my garmin etrex firmaware from version 2.50 to 4.90 using Garmin Express 6.17.0.0 on Windows.

It creates file GUPDAT0.GCD in the Garmin directory of the device but after I unplug my device as per instruction it does not start update automatically. It just stays turned off.

After I turn etrex 30 on it does not start the update. It just loads into 2.50 version of the firmware

File should be named gupdate.gcd not gupdato.gcd, or is that a misspelling?

No. It is not a misspeling. File created by the Garmin Express is named GUPDAT0.GCD, with zero after DAT. I have tried to rename it to GUPDATE.GCD and to GUPDATE.IMG but it have not changed anything.

That's surprising, it should be gupdate.gcd

I'd try deleting it, and any other similar file, then run Express again. If that doesn't work you'll need to call Garmin, as it may be there is an issue updating such an old firmware version
