Garmin Express broken yet again

Garmin Express Windows is failing to sync again with my 910XT.  Get the red bar error "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect".  This keeps happening.  Express will work for a while, then it stops working, then it will start working a few days or weeks later.

I am on Win10 Pro and express is at 6.17.0.0.

I believe the problem is that the Express server needs to be rebooted to clear its memory.  Sometimes I will call support at the 800# but w/o fail, they always blame the problem on bad data and want to wipe everything of the watch.  I tell them not going to do that.  I ask them to reboot the server.  They tell me that they don't have the power to make that request.  I ask for a supervisor.  I make the same request, usually through voicemail, since the "supervisor" never answers.  A few days later, the problem is fixed and my data uploads.    Meanwhile, I did nothing to the watch or data.  So much for the "bad data" accusation.  Seems it is difficult to get good help in Kansas.  Maybe they can schedule a weekly reboot for the Express server?

  • Try the suggestions in the link I posted above, if that doesn't work call Garmin so they can troubleshoot your particular issue.

  • SUGGESTED SOLUTION:

I've heard in the past that old files of GE might interfere with the communication in the device-computer-server chain.

1st step: upload all the activities to GC via WIFI or phone app (otherwise they'll be erased).
uninstall GE -> go to "my computer" -> 'search this PC' (top right) -> search all files names 'garmin' -> delete all the files -> download latest version of GE -> install.

before you connect your watch, perform hard reset.

this have solved the problem for me.

  • Two weeks of using the watch and should it be reset? I cannot accept it as a solution

  • I just updated GE and it seems fixed now.

The same dumb boilerplate that support reps read to you when you call and does not solve the problem!

Was working for me as of last Sunday, when two activities got uploaded successfully.  Thursday 9/19, I did another activity.  When I got home and opened Garmin Express to upload the latest activity.  I was then prompted to install YET ANOTHER FREAKING UPDATE to v6.18.0.0 and of course got the error "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect again".

I tried syncing multiple times throughout the evening with no success.

Can you reboot the damm server again Garmin?  Sheeze.  Will someone people take this company over?

  • The update has fixed the problem according to others, as for the FAQ it resolves the vast majority of issues, occasionally more detailed help is needed from Garmin to troubleshoot those who have other more unique issues. If you've updated either follow the FAQ or remove then re-add your device. If nothing helps you call Garmin

Please stop acting as the apologist for Garmin! WHY would I waste my time calling the lamest support group on the internet?  All they are going to do is read me the same script you are quoting from.  I don't have a corrupted activity.  I don't have a bad connection.  I reboot my computer typically once per week.

Like I said - Connect started working for me allowing me to upload a couple of activities.  Then after the latest update to 6.18.0.0, Connect AGAIN stopped working!  That update occurred this past Thursday for me and as of right now (Saturday at 11:50am PDT), Connect is still NOT CONNECTING!  That inidicates that the problem is, as always, on Garmin's end.

The user should not have to jump through all the hoops that Garmin and its support reps put up with every contact.  Why can't Garmin hire competent tech people so this problem never occurs again? Perhaps because there aren't any to be had in the state of KS?

WHY do I (and others) have to go through these problems over and over and over?  WHY don't I ever have a problem uploading my Strava activities?

Garmin needs to get its act together.  Next week I am going to call the executive offices and register my complaint there.

  • Well see above, seems to have solved others, your call what you do Slight smile
