Garmin Express needs Fixes : bugs with update that freezes... "this may take a minute" message

Hi everyone,

After some severals tests, I am still stuck with an problem with updating my DriveLuxe50 and GE v.6.17

Tried everything :

-Reboot computer

-update Garmin Express (GE)

-uninstall/install GE

-suppress device in GE

-delete garmin folders in %localappdata%

-Setting/Check my timezone and UTC

-Check available space on both device and computer

-Tried another PC (with same version of GE)

-Tried original Garmin usb cable and others data cables

-disable both antivirus and firewall

...

Nothing solved my problem and after some readings on this forum, I've found out that the problem COMES FROM the GE software.

So If you are in the same case, don't worry, you're not mad, it's just GE software...

I wanted to downgrade the version of GE but unfortunately, I don't own any...

So this is a distress call : I need someone who can send me a version up to 6.7.1 (which seems to be the one working without problems).

Anyone who can help ?

  • If it worked before but doesn't after the update the usual fix is to delete the device from Express and re-add it, my 6.17 is working perfectly, as has every version for many years.  If you want to try earlier versions though they are here http://www.gawisp.com/perry/garmin_uilities/

  • Thanks for the support ! I downloaded a previous version of GE and guess what ? It worked like a charm... but I needed to do a trick to bypass the update : so this is it :

To avoid update in a previous version :

-Disable internet on your pc : switch off wifi or unplug your Ethernet Cable
-Then lauch GE and go inside the device (or add it if not already done)
-After that, enable internet again and apply all updates

The problem is if you don't do that, a window pops up and force you to make the update, you have no choice....
In this case : you need to kill the process in windows task manager... and do the steps above !
    Hope this helps.

PS : Garmin should provides some older versions on their websites to avoid customers struggle like that... this is unbelievable...
