Can't unlock maps message after download to Zumo 550

I downloaded the 2020 maps to my computer using Garmin Express. I then installed the maps to the SD card using Mapinstall as directed by Garmin's instructions (Garmin Express won't download to an SD card on a Zumo 550). Afterward the unit gave the message "Can't unlock maps" after loading them. I also tried doing this using Mapsource with the same result. I have always loaded maps this way in the past without problems.
What needs to be done to fix this.

Can you have a look in the Garmin folder on the card. What files are showing?

Beside the GPX and userdata folders there are several .gma files plus the gmapsupp.img file. I deleted the old gmapsupp.img file before downloading as I had always done in the past.

You should have a .gma and .unl file that correspond with the name (in your case gmapsupp) and have the same date/time, do you? If not I'd delete the files and start again, including all the old .gma and .unl files.

Having done so check the folder, you should than have three map files with the appropriate date/time, one .img, one .gma and one .unl

I get the .img and .gma but no .unl. I tried copying an old .unl file from an old backup and that didn't work.

It won't, if you're not getting the .unl code after trying again then you could try the cloning method, just Google Garmin cloning method.
