Garmin Express "Error Installing the Content" Possible Solution Found Tonight

I am posting this for anyone who has had the problem of purchasing a map for their Garmin device, only to find that it won't install after downloading through the Express application for PC. I am in the US and had purchased the UK/Ireland maps for my device. I am using a Nuvi 2595, my OS is Windows 10, 64 bit, in case you were wondering. Both my device and Express are the latest software versions, everything is completely up-to-date on them. I also have plenty of space on the device for the install.

When I was trying to install the UK/Ireland map, it would download, but once it tried to install, it would fail, always stopping at 50%.

In doing some research, I noticed somewhere that official Garmin documentation mentioned that it is working from C-Program Files-Garmin. After getting frustrated with the repeated map install failures, I decided to uninstall Express, reboot, and reinstall it. During the re-installation, I noticed that the Express software was installing to C-Program Files (x86), not Program Files. On Windows, those are two separate folders. So during this install (about 45 minutes ago) I switched it to Program Files and had it install there. I then reconnected the nuvi, downloaded the UK/Ireland Maps and installed it directly to the device. It worked without a problem. I have tested it on the device and it is pulling up UK and Irish destinations. Problem solved.

Since I changed two variables (re-installation & changed location) I can't say for certain if it was one, the other, or both that fixed my issue, but regardless, it worked. I am posting this in case someone out there is going through what I did and stumbles upon this in a Google search.

To sum it up: Uninstall Express, reboot, re-install Express, make sure you specifically install to Program Files, not Program Files (x86). Hopefully you get the same results I did.

Lastly, support from Garmin themselves was polite, but not able to provide any insight. The advice of checking the quality of my internet connection, my data speed, the space on my hard drive, etc is, to be polite, VERY outdated. This may have been useful guidance at some point years ago, or relevant for some service providers outside of the US, but it is not very helpful here and now. Additionally, my issue was not with the download, but with the installation. If Garmin people happen to read these forums, perhaps they will want to test these steps and if they are duplicate-able, add them to the support pages. I also will send this to the support folks who tried to help me so that perhaps they share it with others who contact them.

Anyway, I am always happy when other people post solutions they find to problems that I am able to use, so I thought I would do the same. Garmin Karma!

Cheers!
