Recently bought a Echomap Plus 75sv with preloaded g2 Bluecharts (UK/ Europe) on the understanding that it could be updated free to g3 when it was released in late February. Garmin Express is now showing an update is available but at £49.99 and on closer inspection the product ID code is for an obsolete g2 upgrade which rather adds insult to injury in that they are trying to flog it on the same day g3 was released. Garmin UK support were helpful up to a point but are not privy to all the info, my understanding is there have been some issues hence delays with bluechart g3 software update downloads via Garmin Express, conversely buying g3 new charts via SD/micro SD or download is OK? Does anyone have any more info or actually been able to get a g3 software update via Garmin Express at no charge?
Manannan, I believe the updates that are being offered are the G3 maps but under a part number that does not actually " specify" G3 maps if that makes sense. I have a GPSmap 7610 and it offered me a version that just was described as " Bluechart and Lake View HD" I called Garmin and they informed me it was indeeed the G3 maps and the version number was 2019.0
Thanks Terryrayhi your comment makes sense and fits in with what I saw on Garmin Express although at one point it specifically showed a picture of g2 charts against version 2019.0 which was later changed. Both on the Garmin website under FAQ's and also talking to Garmin UK/Europe tech support some customers have experienced a problem whereby the g2 to g3 update hangs indefinitely during download and it is an issue they are working on. However Garmin UK/Europe manually (thanks Martin!) added the g3 update to my Garmin Express account free of charge to bypass some of the issues, this downloaded to a microSD card without further ado and enabled me to update both my Echomap Plus 75sv and old GPSmap551 to g3 mapping.
