Garmin Dashcam 55 – Speed Cameras (UK) stopped working after Garmin Express update

Speed camera warnings and notifications had been working fine on the device until I completed the latest update via Garmin Express on the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] Jan.
Contacted support desk who firstly instructed a reinstall – this didn’t resolve the issue. Shared all relevant log files and details and no resolution.
Feedback from support desk was other users have also reported an issue.

One week on and still not working, no work around offered, no options to revert or downgrade Camera file versions and no time scales for when a fix will be provided. Really not good enough.

Any others having similar problems with camera warnings ceasing to work?
Any ideas on a work around?

DON’T UPDATE CAMERA FILES ON A DASHCAM 55.
If you were going to complete an update to the camera data I would suggest you don’t and hold off until this issue is resolved.
  • I read the thread with interest since I have suffered problems in the past, however in my POI folder I am unable to interpret individual countries since all I see are various 006-Dxxx-00.gpi files; could some kind sole indicate which countries they refer to please.
  • Open these GPI files in the Notepad - within the first 100 characters or so you will get something along these lines (for 006-D0697-00.gpi as an example):

Cyclops France Datak ENg France Dec-31-2018 Dangerous Zones Database Copyright © 2016 Cyclops UK Limited. All rights reserved. 006-D0697-00A

The funny thing here is that all 13 GPI files (for EU) are present in my /POI folder - and yet satnav recognises and shows duplicated Dutch ones, but no UK/EIRE.
  • Thanks 'Krzemien' for your help all has become clear, files identified and dated.
  • If it were me I'd revert to an earlier software version, do you keep backups? If so revert until the issue is fixed.

Unfortunately don’t have a copy of the previous cyclops speed camera files. First Garmin device and so wasn’t prepared for such a failure or the fact Garmin don’t seem to provide historic files to support a downgrade.

Gladly revert to previous camera file / database if anyone can share how to source or recover previous image.
  • I suspect the issue is downgrading the software device, not the camera files. As an aside like every software driven devices it's worth making a back up of your device before any software update as it is for every other device, eg your PC. You can get previous software versions here http://gawisp.com/perry/dashcam/
  • Yes, re-reading the original post I may have misunderstood it, I thought the implication was that it was a device software update that caused the issue, but see it could be a camera database issue, in which case as Krzemien points out there is a known issue.

The missing UK & Ireland database has returned. At least I had them for a couple of long trips where I didn't know the roads.

New case open with support and they have the logs.
  • Just a quick note that Garmin apparently fixed the issue their end - I did manage to upload updated Cyclop files yesterday and all of them (including previously missing UK&Eire) they seem to be recognised by my nuvicam correctly (although I have not used the satnav whilst driving yet). So go ahead and check your end.
