Garmin Express 6.10.0.0 shows wrong software version on main page for DriveLuxe 50

When I first installed software version 5.80 Express showed 5.80 but now it shows 5.70 but when I click on Tools & Content it shows the correct 5.80 version. I have removed the 50 from express and re added it with same results. Shows version 5.80 on the unit itself under device info and 5.80 under garmin and garmin device. Not sure which version of express I used when 5.80 first came out. Something must have happened with latest 6.10.0.0 Express. It says You're up to date! on main page. Maybe someone else that has the DriveLuxe 50 can check this out.

  • According to this information:

    https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=9049

v5.70 is the latest one available for this unit. Its release date (14/12/18) is quite topical though which makes me suspicious. Perhaps it's been pulled back - or GE is playing a bit.

  • Thanks for the response but I installed 5.80 the first day it came out and at that time it reported 5.80 like it does on the DriveLuxe 50 itself and from the garmin device file which shows 580 on it also. So pulled or not I do have 5.80 installed like it shows in express 6.10.0.0 under Tools & Content. If I remember correctly it was a small update about traffic and improved software stability or something like that. The traffic update I think was for another country for reception.

  • I have the same situation here with my zumo 595lm - latest firmware is 4.50 and was installed successfully, but GE now shows version 4.40 and 'You're up to Date' on the main screen. On the unit itself is definitely version 4.50 and in GE under 'Tools & Content is also shown the correct version!
Seems to be a bug in Garmin Express 6.10.0.0...
  • Interestingly, your situation is similar to the one OP reported: according to this information

    https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=9518

v4.40 is the latest one available - although its release date is again very recent: 14/12/2018.

My nuvicam is showing correct firmware version in all places

    https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=7711

So I suspect both of these firmware packages must have been pulled back by Garmin for some reason. And GE is actually reporting the truth: you both are up to date even though officially available firmware package is one version behind as of today.

Worth checking one of the folders below this one:

    C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\Firmware

To see the details & relevant gcd (firmware) files.

  • I checked the folder you showed and 12-7-18 it shows the 5.80 gcd file

  • Krzemieniu - you seem to be right, looks really as Garmin has withdrawn the v4.50 firmware, as the original v4.40 is from May 2018 and both files are equal!

Hmmm, would be nice from Garmin to told us, if we should downgrade to v4.40 again to avoid errors or other strange things. I'm surely not the only one with the v4.50 firmware on the zumo 595 as it was nearly a week online on GE...

Only thing i noticed was, that the zumo wasn't recognized as 'compatible Garmin unit' by Smartphone Link - but i was thinking that this is more a problem of the Android Oreo Update on my LG G6, as i downgraded already to an older firmware without any success - but maybe there where some other changes too, which couldn't be reverted while downgrading and this firmware has broken the connection to Smartphone Link!?

Hopefully they will bring a corrected update soon...
  • There we go then, it's been pulled back...

You probably could get back to the previous version using WebUpdater? Or any other alternative method somehow?

I also found this elsewhere via Google:

Changes made from version 5.70 to 5.80 (06/12/2018):
    Improved software stability.

    and:

Changes made from version 4.40 to 4.50:
    • Added support for sharing trips and tracks via Smartphone Link.

    • Improved software stability.

    (...)
I updated my 595 to 4.5 in the hope it would cure the Bluetooth connections issues I've, no such luck. It did add new bugs where it would get stuck on looking for satellites on the map page, but the home page would show all green bars, plus it would shut itself off completely, plus some strange looking graphics at some junctions.

I guess awaiting new firmware release is the right thing to do.

  • Just spoke with garmin support and she said units ending in 0 had this update then was pulled back to 5.70 but said I am fine with 5.80 installed. Said on main screen that 5.70 is showing because that is what is available now. Bye the way she also said WebUpdater does not update newer units anymore. Also I went to WebUpdater and it showed I was up to date but offered no reinstall like older units did.

  • Thanks - makes sense.

Merely for reference, quite a few threads here in these forums how to perform firmware downgrade on Garmin devices:

    https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into-sports/cycling/edge-810-aa/111116-
    https://forums.garmin.com/forum/on-the-trail/wrist-worn/fenix-5-5s/1314383-how-to-downgrade-firmware

One needs to have the previous GCD files available, obviously, but these are easily obtainable - links contained within the above.
  • I used the gcd file under program file like you said on one of above posts and it did not put 5.70 back in device. I followed instructions on the above links in last post.
Garmin support said I could not revert to 5.70 and would have to wait until express has newer update on it.
