No Disk

I haven’t had the problem previously, having used Express since I bought my Garmin DriveSmart in 2016 but while using it this week, it updated itself to V 6.10.0.0 and since then, the following problem has appeared –

Immediately after starting, I get a popup window declaring “There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk?\DR?” (the ? being a drive number, in my case 4).
The button options are Cancel, Try Again and Continue. No matter which option is selected, cancel, retry, or continue, the popup continues to come up but gradually works its way through the software loading. The only way to stop the pop-ups is to close the express.exe process in Task Manager.

Any ideas before I try the uninstall, reinstall route?
  • Well uninstall reinstall is what I'd try first, doesn't take long

Firstly, Happy New Year everyone. :)

Seondly, nope, uninstall > reboot > reinstall > same error messages. Have to keep clicking on "Continue" until it works it's way through what it's doing.
  • In that case remove the device from Express then re-add it.

Done. Same result. I'm now in a circle of "Drive, DriveSmart 60/70, and DriveTrack 70 Language Text" update > disconnect > start > update & restart > update...
  • Ok, well my last idea is try inserting a card into the slot on your Drive, then see what happens? I've not experienced your problem so slight grasping of straws here.

Here's help i got on something similiar..... The other trick is to unplug ever external device you can. I left only my mouse plugged in - it is all you need, really.
[h=1]msi File Not Found when Updating a Garmin Software Application[/h] [h=3]Description[/h]

MSI files are used by Windows Installer during the installation of an application. Most applications have their own MSI file. If Windows is unable to locate a previous version of the MSI file during the installation, the following errors may be displayed:
    • The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available
    • The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable

The Windows registry contains the locations of these files for use when re-installing or updating applications. If these files are deleted (either due to a computer issue or because they were removed unintentionally), the registry keys will point to files that no longer exist. [h=3]Resolution[/h]

    • Click Accept in the license agreement
    • Follow the provided instructions to select and uninstall the particular application
      • When uninstalling Garmin Express select:
        • Garmin Express
        • Garmin Express Tray
        • Elevated Installer
        • Garmin Update Services (skip if not present)
        • ANT Drivers Installer x64

      • When the application displays Troubleshooting Complete, close the application
      • This program will need to be run again for each item on the list to be uninstalled

Once the Microsoft Fix it utility is complete, download and install the desired application from the Garmin software page.

This will resolve MSI-related issues when installing or updating Garmin applications.

Same problem here. I tried the above and it did not help. I got the same answer from Larry in support. I even went into the registry and manually removed any reference to Garmin express, express tray, elevated installer & ANT drivers install x64. Still did not help. Then I removed all Garmin Express folders from the drive. After reinstalling nothing has helped.

I have never seen any message about missing MSI file.

What exactly is it looking for? Where is \Device\HarddiskVolumne11, 13,14. Why or What program is calling for that?
  • We have a FAQ on this error message. Please refer to:

Just came here to say that Garmin Express is possibly the single most dreadful piece of software after Windows ME and the software that caused the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. Peace <3

  • Really?  It's worked perfectly for me for years now ... what issues are you having?
