Hi there,

I used SD card as internal storage , everything was copied there by the satnav. after few days my SD card stopped working (died). When I changed to new SD card I have discovered that I have lost all original vehicle pointers, voices, map themes and maps from my satnav. After downloading maps (reinstalling them, I have even completed full factory reset) voices, vehicle pointers or map themes are still not available. Also even accept T&C text (after resetting satnav to factor settings) is not available just option to accept but nothing you read. Is there is some way to recover satnav from this ? As even Garmin express does not give option to download map themes or voices or very limited vehicle pointers. I spoke to Gartmin support but their answer was that i need to reinstall maps and that should help. But id did not.

I assume you didn't back anything up? Bit late now but removing key files from your device isn't a good idea. Perhaps you can find some sort of program that can recover the files from your non working sd card?

To be honest I do not really know how. As when I have backed up satnav in garmin express it did not backed up earlier mention things. Plus card was formatted for internal storage which means no access to it from computer. Anyway card must have completely go down as it is completely unreadable on anything i have available and what will take SD. Anyway I spoke to Garmin again and someone was more helpful and that will be fixed under warranty.

As you said it is better not move files off satnav but then when i have inserted my SD card with photos and music the satnav asked this question would i like it to be formatted as internal storage and then asked to move files. Nowhere in manuals or forums etc does say that if SD card become faulty then you will loose everything from it. Not sure what is point of that. I was under impression that only maps gets to SD card not the whole system.

Sorry but your device wouldn't ask for the SD card to be formatted as internal memory nor would it move vital files to it. Anyway glad it's been sorted.
