Firmware reinstall via SDcard

I have a Zumo 660, that I accidentally started an SDcard overwrite on, as I chose the wrong "drive" in Windows for this. Yeah silly me.
Now the Zumo can start, but it cannot connect to windows, and some settings are gone.
The Zumo can only start with the SD card inserted, otherwise it keeps rebooting.

So, I figured I would perform a firmware update/reinstall via the SDcard, so I plugged the SD card directly into the computer, downloaded zumo660_GCDFile__510.gcd, copied it to the garmin folder on the sd card, renamed the firmware file to gupdate.gcd, re-inserted the SD card into the Zumo, and rebooted it. The Zumo just starts up as it did before with the SD card inserted, and does not detect an available update file.

Any ideas?
  • It won't because it doesn't look at the card for an update file. I assume you've tried a master reset? If that hasn't worked then you could try googling GarminCure3.

    Hi Sussamb.

    Thank you for the suggestion.
I have downloaded the GarminCure3. It requires a USB connection between the Zumo and the PC, and since this is broken in the first place, GarminCure3 cannot do anything.

Seems it's time to replace the Zumo with something newer. It's not that big a deal, as I was annoyed with the 660's map lag, especially when zooming out, as this took several seconds each time. Newer models have faster hardware. As I won't be needing it before next year, I will wait for a newer model to be released, or to see the price of the latest 595lm go further down :-)ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1397388.png
