MAC (Bootcamp) with Windows10 fenix 5 Plus not detected

Hi Everyone

I having issues detecting the watch Fenix 5 Plus on my computer, when I connect the watch the USB is not properly detected and not mounted as an external unit, that means that on a later stage Garmin Express is not able to add the watch, and i cannot upload the music.

Has someone face the same issue, i tried to assign manually the drivers to the undetected USB, using a USB Hub between the laptop and the watch, but with no luck, it's seems something about drivers, has anyone the same configuration, and can share please the driver version or the configuration that is running.

Thanks in advance
  • I've not used Bootcamp for ages to run Windows as I never had much joy with it. I did have Parallels until recently but then came across VirtualBox. It's free and works much like Parallels allowing you to have MacOs and Windows running at the same time. Anyhow, using that, I've not had any problems connecting my 935 GE and SportTracks in Windows. But, as an aside, why are you wanting to connect to Windows instead of native MacOs? Is there a specific program in Windows that you need?

Hi Phillips, thanks for your answer

The base problem is not Bootcamp or Parallels, i used windows as i got other progrmas in my daily work, and i will not like to restart in each specific system each time i want to upload music, and by the way copy also the music from one system to another.
The baseline problem i think is that the USB is not properly detected due to some problems with the drivers and Macbook Pro, and my question is to know if anybody has to confront this problem, and has found any compatible driver or any workaround.

    Thanks in advance
  • It could well be something to do with the way BootCamp connects the USB drivers to Windows. I went away from BootCamp years ago because it always was hit and miss, never mind the inconvenience of having to reboot between operating systems.

You asked for a workaround? I'm suggesting something that will make it much easier to work with both operating systems at the same time without having to reboot each time. Virtualisation will allow you to have both Windows and MacOS open at the same time, possibly solving the issue with the USB drivers. VirtualBox is free and allows you to do just that. Once up and running it's a simple matter to drag and drop files between the two systems. Parallels is a paid version but arguably easier to set up than VirtualBox.

Have you had any joy connecting directly to the MacBook instead of using the hub? Is it a powered hub?

I have the 2018 MacBook Pro with only USB-C connections meaning that I have to use an interface to connect my USB devices. I'm using one of these and all is working well in Windows as well as MacOS - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B01MUAE...382012_TE_item

Hi Phillips, thanks for your answer

Indeed is a better solution, i will purchase the new MackBook on the next few months (I was waiting for the lastest version by Apple) and i will use Parallels as is more flexible as BootCamp for sure.

I tried to use a hub (Trust) but it not worked, in the meanwhile i will upload the music using another PC I get at home, and i will try again when i get the new MackBook (sure i will need to purchase an interface to connect USB to USB-C) as you show in picture.

If I get problems with the new Mac i will "drop again" in Forum.

    Thanks in advance
