Can't download purchased TOPO maps for GPSMAP 64SC

I just purchased the TOPO Australia and New Zealand download but can't install it.

I can see it in Garmin Express but when I try to download it via Garmin Express it proceeds to Preparing Device and then a second later reverts to the device page with a vague error "There was an error installing the content"

When I check the Express.log file I find in the exception stack trace "No compatible content to install"

The TOPO map is definitely compatible with my GPSMAP 64SC (WW, whatever that means).

I've tried different USB cables, six different versions of Garmin Express, two different computers, I've tried a wired, wifi, and 4G internet connection using different ISPs, I've tried disabling the firewall and virus scanner, I've tried a hard reset of my GPS, I've tried with and without the micro SD card in the GPS, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling .NET frameworks. ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1390699.jpg

I've contacted Garmin Support and on Twitter and emailed the Garmin Social team and still waiting on a response.

Called them today and they told me to send an email - so now there's two open support requests. Sigh.

  • I find Garmin support to be a real hassle to actually get help from. I am always pushed from pillar to post when trying to get any help with a device.

So I send them screenshots and the log file. They asked for more screenshots. Then they asked for the device XML. Now the latest is they've asked for my username and password - which I thought seemed silly. Still no answers, no idea what they've tried, what they suspect, what they might do. Just a dark void that demands more information.

Another week goes by, nothing from Support ...
  • Have you tried calling them again?

The reviews for the Garmin 64SC (camera) models indicate that the device has battery voltage issues above and beyond the non-camera models. Try using fully charged good quality NIMH AA cells.

Thanks, I've tried the battery pack, lithium batteries, no batteries. I'll give them another go. This is really annoying me, it's just a stupid DRM issue.

I did not consider the 64SC camera device before buying a 64S, but then when I went back to re-read the reviews it seemed to me that the weak battery pack was a particular issue for many camera users. I concluded that if I had bought the 64SC that the 2500+ mah Eneloops would probably be a better choice in the field. It occurred to me yesterday that the Garmin battery pack in charge mode might draw extra current from a computer USB port while trying to download map data. Good luck
