Garmin Nuvi 65LMT "Can't Unlock Maps"

I am using my device after a long time and the last time i used everything was working as it should. I have 3 maps on my memory card out of which one map results in an error "cant unlock maps" upon booting the device. This is the map for UK. I installed Basecamp which shows all the maps on the device and on memory card without any problem. When i goto Map - Manage Map Products", it shows all the maps with the one i have a problem with as "unlockable". I dont know what the problem is. All was well, the last time I used it. I tried updating Garmin express but no luck.
  • When you say you tried updating Express and no luck what do you mean. You couldn't update Express or having updated it there was no difference?

    Hi.. I updated express to the latest version (5.6) without any problem. but this didnt solve my issue. I also reinstalled the maps but later realized this will only reinstall the maps on the device and not on the memory card. The map i am having issue with is City Navigator Europe NTU 2017.2
  • Latest Express isn't 5.6

    Also Express will install the map where there is space. If it wants to install it to the device how did you get the map onto the card?

    Latest map isn't 2017.2 either so why are you worrying about it?

    Hi. II bough this Garmin along with all its maps as a second hand unit. It had 2 maps on the device and 3 on memory card. Of the 3 on memory card, one is having unlock problem.
    This error wasnt there when I used it last year.

    When I updated Express, it got updated to 5.6.

    My intension is not to update the maps on memory card but to just use them in its original version. Wondering why would just one map on memory card have unlock issue.
  • Somethings possibly now corrupted in the unlock file. Unless you have a back up I suggest you simply remove the offending map. In any case having multiple maps selected can cause issues.

    As for Express, try updating again as 5.6 isn't the current version as we're now in the 6. series.

    Thats possible. I do not have a backup taken before. For Express, i still see only 5.6, it could be due to the region I am in. I dont expect upgrading to solve the issue. Also, this upgrade wont update the firmware on the device i believe? It would be nice to have tools from Garmin to repair corrupted .unl files.
  • For a current map it's not an issue. For older maps there is little point. My comment anyway about the unlock file is just a suggestion, there could be other things going on here.

    Express should update regardless of regions but as you mention UK I assume you're in the EU. In which case 5.6 is quite an old version. If it won't update from within Express then download it from the Garmin Express website.

    Sorry.. I am on Garmin express 6.6. I was referring to the version it showed after i connected Nuvi 65. I guess 5.6 is the firmware version I am using.. Do i need to upgrade my firmware?
  • Don't know as I don't have your model but Express would offer it if there was one.

    Hi. Having read more on my issue, I am suspecting if my unit is region locked. In Basecamp under Maps, Installed Map, under the region tab, I see Australia NZ. Does that mean I need a region unlock to use Europe maps? Appreciate some advice.
