Unable to update some GPS files

Finally inserted a microSD card into my old nuvi1350 so I could update it. Installed & ran Garmin Express & it indicated there were 5 updates. I only selected the map for the Lower 49 states & figured I could go back & update the other stuff later. But I can't.

The maps updated OK. Garmin Express says my GPS has no other updates. Did an online chat with Garmin & they said the same thing & abruptly ended the chat.

Other than maps, none of the other GPS folders & files appear to be updated because they have older dates.

Installed & ran the WebUpdater. The only update it had was for voices.

How do I perform the other 4 following updates that Garmin Express initially said I needed?
1) Time Zone Map
2) Database for FM Traffic Providers
3) Proximity Alert Text, All Languages
4) Traffic Text, all Languages

Thanks in advance.

  • If Express and WebUpdater are no longer offering the updates I suspect they were done when you updated the map. Have you switched your 1350 on since doing the update?

Yes, it has been switched off & on a few times.

When doing the online chat the Garmin rep said all the updates were done when the map was updated. But that didn't make sense. Why have the option to select different updates if they'll all get updated with the map update. However anything is possible.

I was asking if these 4 updates would show up again when the next map update comes out, but that's when the rep was no longer online.

None of the folders or files on the main Garmin F: drive have new dates.

The Removable Disk E: drive has 2 folders.
The Garmin folder contains one file, gmappupdate.gsd, dated yesterday. The size is 0 KB.
The Map folder contains 3 files: gmappupdate.gma, gmappupdate.img, and gmappupdate.unl. All have yesterday's date.

The Time Zone update doesn't seem critical. And neither do the two Text files - presuming it's just some languages getting updated. The one that seems most important would be the "Database for FM Traffic Providers". But what is it's function? Does that mean if the GPS picks up a traffic signal that's not in database then it will not provide information?

Is it worth installing an old map from the backup folder & see if all the updates show up?

Did some searching & here's what I found. The Proximity Alert Text and Traffic Text are GLX files. And it appears all .glx language files are in the Text folder. Neither the Folder or any files have updated dates so I'm presuming nothing there has been updated.

Viewed the System Folders. It contained a gmaptz.img file which is supposedly the Time Zone Map. That file was updated 7-29-3018 so it should be OK. There was also a gmaptz.eum file but it had no date.

The System Folder also contained a TrafficProvider.xml file which is supposed to be the Database for FM Traffic Providers. It was dated 7-29-2018 & clicking on the file showed vers, 4.40 which is the latest. So that should be OK.

It looks like Garmin Express updated the two (IMO) important files when it updated the map, but did not update the text/language files.

The WebUpdater had updates for Fonts, Voices, and "nuvi 13xx and 14xx Language Text". I did not update any of those.

Guess I'm OK till the next update cycle, Time for a new Garmin GPS, but it appears they all use a smartphone for traffic & I don't have an unlimited data plan.
