I updated GE from 6.5.1 to 6.6.0. When I went to shutdown my PC later, I got an error msgbox in the middle of the screen about an illegal instruction from express.exe, and the machine wouldn't shut down until I answered the msgbox. I thought this was strange as I had closed GE before shutdown, and before the installation I had the option in GE to always keep it running in the background disabled.
When I next booted up and checked, the installation of 6.6.0 had turned the always run in background option on again, and had also added GE to the startup programs at boot time. WHY, WHEN I HAD PREVIOUSLY TURNED THESE OPTIONS OFF, A DEFINITE INDICATION THAT I DIDN'T WANT THEM? Mind you, given the general level of incompetence and inadequate testing that Garmin have displayed time and again with their software, I don't know why I should be surprised at yet another demonstration of this.
I updated this morning (on Windows 10), and now the only way I can start Garmin Express is running it as Administrator. Launching it normally crashes with error "An unexpected error has occurred and Garmin Express must close. If you continue to experience this, contact Garmin customer support."
The tray icon app keeps running, but using its "Launch Express" option results in the same error.
Where can I find more information about exactly what this unexpected error is?
