Yes the battery is in place.
So we have another Zumo 660LM, running win 7 U x64, and latest Garmin Express (GE) installed, I have tried to update the maps using no SD Card, 8GB and a 16GB card, used differnt USB ports, even used the support site using this string
support.garmin.com/.../

followed all the info but still get the same error, been onto Gramin and as usual it's dead and offered and upgrade they told me the SD Card reader must be dead yet within windows i can see it fine, having said that i have not tried to write to it yet so i will do that later, using Garmin cable, SD Cards are well Lexar & Samsung but unsure of write speed, internet connection is fine (FTTP 50/10), can't think of much more to give info wise, any questions just ask.

  • Is your zumo up to date? One software update was to correct some SD cards not being recognised.
  • Do you need all of Europe? If you click on Install options you could select the Download to computer option, then use BaseCamp or MapInstall to send part of the map to your Zumo if the SD card isn't recognised. You may also find they do see the card and so you could then send the map to the card.

Yes we seem to be up to date with software, as for maps, no i never go outside the UK so Europe i don't need, i hate putting software on the PC so don't want to go down basecamp route if i can help it but i might take an image of my OS drive and try basecamp to see how i go, i'll post back friday sometime with some more info

Please bear in mind here i know NOTHING about basecamp.
I have installed it on the laptop (easier to resore image on laptop) and have CN Europe NT 2014.30 v20.14 come up in the lefthand side and then when i try to transfer to the 660 it comes up saying "No unlocked maps were found for this device" this comes up when i select the internal memory or the 16GB card and the "Continue" option is greyed out, bit lost to be honest but i will have a nose later and update again

  • If the map is installed in BaseCamp right click the Zumo in the left hand pane and select Install maps then follow the wizard.

Note as you have two identical devices ensure the map you've selected in BaseCamp is the one installed to your PC for this device. If you select the map installed for your other Zumo you will get the ''no maps unlocked for this device' message.

Thanks for your help so far SUSSAMB but i'm not getting anywhere fast.
I have gone back to an image that has NO garmin software installed, i then installed GE and get the same error message as before (post 1, image 4), so went back to old image with NO garmin software on again, then installed basecamp, i have signed into my garmin account using basecampand on the whole map it shows just the Europe side of maps (sort of highlighted) I can see no option to update maps to latest version or anything, the only thing that does show up is MAPS/INSTALL MAPS ON ZUMO 660 (UNIT ID XXXXXXXXX) i then click on that and get the "No unlocked maps were found on this device, even tried to use the SD card and same error, i'm going nowhere fast with this one.

I know there is another way to update maps using an .img file and renaming it but shall we say it's not legal and given i have paid for my Lifetime Maps i'd like to be able to keep using them the way i should rather then bend the law.

Any other suggestions SUSSAMB or anyone else?

  • I'm getting confused now. Express has just been updated so I suggest you update your version. Then delete both Zumos from Express. Now attach the one you want to update, and see what happens. If it won't update your device at that point click on Install options and select Install to PC. That will install the relevant map for that Zumo onto your PC for BaseCamp to read. Run BaseCamp and check it's there. Now attach your Zumo, if it's not already, and when it shows in BaseCamp right click it and select Install maps ... follow the wizard. Just one thought ... you do have a lifetime subscription for both Zumos I assume?

Well got there in the end SUSSAMB :D
Did get worried when it kept going on about are you sure you want to do this you will be overwriting Garmin software etc but it did the job, took some time over usb2 but as i say it's work, so a thousand thanks for your effort and being patient with me i'm very gratefull.

Just one quick thing what would happen if the main drive (more like chip) lost some of the garmin data or it got overwritten or something like that are there images going around that your could reinstal and give you a new OS on the 660 itself, bit like a fresh factory image or something on those lines.

  • Great :)

No, you can't access the OS at all. What I suggest you do though is now that it's working you back up all the files you can access just in case you accidentally delete any. That will include gupdate.gcd, which is the file loaded to your device when Garmin install a new update and it's that file which your device uses to load a new OS.
