Another map update problem

Ok, I have a Nuvi 2595LM. I have to update ny maps and can not. It updates the firmware with no issue. When I do a map update it states "OK to walk away do not disconnect" might take 3 hours. Leave it overnight nothing happens. Have tried quite a few times. I also turn off my firewall as other have stated. Any other ideas as to what my problem is? I have Windows 10 if that matters?
TIA - Brian
  • Sorry when you say nothing happens how do you know? What message do you see? Have you checked that your usb ports don't go to sleep?

You might like to try keeping a closer eye on it to help identify exactly what is happening.

It says "Installing one item ...> 3 hours remaining SAFE TO WALK AWAY DO NOT DISCONNECT DEVICE" The next dsay it says the same thing. Thereis no spinning wheel or percentage of download listed? So I guess I really have no idea if it's doing anything at all?
As for the software portion. It says I'm up to date with version 8.30. I also installed a Micro SD 32 gig.
  • Ok. Understand now. First just check how much spare space you have both on your PC and device. I doubt this is the issue but just to rule it out. A map update requires up to 20Gb of space on your PC. On your device just check it has some free, if it's full that can also be an issue.

Assuming that's ok Win10 seems to have occasional issues with mtp devices, and not just Garmin ones. Try switching your device to mass storage mode and see if that helps.

How do I check how much space I have open on the Garmin? I will have to look into changing to mass storage, never did that.
  • Look at its properties when it's connected to your PC. To change to mass storage mode:

    1. Start device by itself and go to Volume Screen.
    2. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds.
    3. The Developers Screen will pop up
(may see Configuration and Settings, if so select it)
    4. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS
    5. Change from AUTO DETECT to MASS STORAGE
    6. Shut down the device and connect to PC
    7. It should now connect in mass storage mode.

As an alternative to step 1 and 2 above, you can bring up the "trip information" screen by tapping the speed icon, then press and hold the speedometer for about 10 seconds to access the developer screen. Now go from step 3.

Ok so I just went tinto the storage settings and my Nuvi was already set on Mass Storage. I may have done this a year or so ago when I had problems loading updates as well.

How do I see if the Garmin is seeing the new SD card?

It appears that my Garmin Express program was old. I updated the program itself and now it's down loading. Fingers crossed .
