Maps not updating on nuvi 2557lmt

Using Windows 7 and Garmin Express 6.3.0.0. When I connected the 2557LMT yesterday, the update failed. After retrying that a few times, I noticed the details and saw that there were 11 or 12 updates available, so I tried installing things like firmware and help files one at a time. After one restart, I was down to 5 updates and then got to 1, the 2019.11 map update (the unit is currently running 2014.30) I tried that a few times. At one point, I noticed that the file showed as 4.75GB and my unit showed something like 3.47GB available. So I added a 16GB microSD card and retried last night. It appeared to be doing OK, but I forgot about the 10pm time frame where the site was down for maintenance. When that errored out, I punted for the night.

I restarted the whole process this afternoon, hoping for success. Same result - one update, the map file, that tries for a few minutes then gives an error. I'd be grateful for any ideas.
  • Try going to C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\Map and deleting the files there. It's possible that with the various failed attempts a partial file is preventing a clean install. Once you've done so try again.

Thanks so much. There’s no directory named ProgramData. Under C:\ProgramFiles\Garmin... there’s nothing like CoreService. I searched for ‘CoreService’ on the entire hard drive and found nothing as well. I don’t see anything that looks like a Garmin download folder or map files either.
  • What error is it giving then?

It shows that there's one update available, the 4.75GB 2019.11 map file. When I select install, it tries for a few minutes and then I get a red box at the top with "There was an error installing the update"
  • Call product support then for detailed help.

Got this response... "Garmin is currently experiencing an issue with map updates with Garmin Express. Try again later in the day as we are working on the issue"

Since I originally started this process on Saturday afternoon, I guess it's possible that they are just getting to the issue today, during the work week.

I waited a couple of hours and then restarted to install process. I got sidetracked and Garmin Express was running in the background. When I happened to think to check, it was within 4 minutes of completing. It finished successfully, so I now have 2019.11

Apparently they really *were* working on the issue.
