Garmin Express Update Broke My Nuvi 2595LMT

'Update failed' Now is not recognizable via PC USB. Try to input an address and GPS says 'Map data is not available'. I have tried all of the follow:
2 USB cables
2 computers
2 different windows versions
Changed to Mass Storage Mode
Reinstalled USB drivers
NOT using a USB hub
All Garmin software fully updated

All I want to know is if the unit can be updated via the SD card slot and how I do that. Unit is NOT accessible via USB -will only charge. Does not show up in Device Manager.

  • Express cannot ''break' your device, normally the issue you describe is caused by folks disconnecting their device without doing a safe eject. Data is still being sent to the device so you end up with a corrupted map, which is why you're now getting the map data error.

You can't update via the card and if it's only charging via the cable this points to a cable issue, are you using data rather than power cables? Run through this FAQ to see if it helps

No actually it did break my device. It says it would take 1 hour; I gave it 6 hours. Can't sit there all day. If Garmin et al can't write competent software then their products deserve to die a slow death. I paid nearly 200 for this device and only 3 year later it is toast. I'm transitioning to an android phone with GPS. Garmin can jump off a cliff.
  • If the FAQ didn't help try calling Product Support to see if they can help. I've been updating numerous Garmin devices for over 10 years and have never had issues when updating. Something has gone wrong with your update.
