Windows 10 doesn't see nuvi 2497 LMT but does see nuvi 550 after win 10 update

Went to get map updates to day. Typically something doesn't work. This time the win 10 computer doesn't see the nuvi 2497 lmt; the 2497 is detecting the computer. Computer is working fine with a nuvi 550 and even GE 5.3.1.0 sees the 550.

Any ideas? win 10 home ver 1703 build 15063.483
  • Win10 seems to have issues with mtp mode devices, try setting your nuvi to mass storage mode.

If that is the case it may be win media player. This is really gonna be a pain because you need the 2497 in MPT to load routes from base camp; mapsource will detect it the other way but loading routes only works about 10% of the time from mapsource.
  • No, you don't need to be in mtp mode for it to work with BaseCamp. In mass storage mode it'll work with both MapSource and BaseCamp.
  • Yup, sussamb is correct. I keep my 3597 locked in mass storage mode all the time. It works fine in mass storage mode with BaseCamp, Express and all other Garmin software

Got it narrowed down to the usb of the nuvi; worked for awhile in mass storage and then quit. Changed cables three times, all cables work with the 550. Changed to an old XP that it use to work with in mass storage mode, still the 2497 doen't work.. Popped out the SD chip and it, the SD, works fine with the win 10 machine. Looks like a new GPSr will need to be added to the budget list. Can still use it with my favorites and point and shoot for now.

Picked up a 2589 LMT, switched it to mass storage and even mapsource will work with it. The 2497 never really worked with mapsource.
