Nuvi 250w keeps rebooting (will not start) after map update

Hi there,

I've tried updating (or have updated, cannot be for sure what was the outcome) my device to the latest map (NT Europe 2018.10).

After the download and installing has completed (I've selected to download the map to my computer) the device seems to have disconnected from the application.

Now, the device keeps rebooting and will not start - it appears that the reboot happens when the screen displays "loading maps" (after the logo and the copyright screen).

  • That's an indication of a corrupt map file, did you do a safe eject or just pull the plug? The latter can cause a corrupt map. You'll need to connect your device to your PC and then do a reinstall of the map. If that doesn't work, manually delete the updated map files and then reinstall.

    Hi,

I did not plug out the device from the pc - it just lost the connection. Even when the device is connected to the PC the rebooting is constant - therefore cannot access the files on the device.
  • I imagine that the next logical step is master reset:

Assuming that nothing else worked / device fully charged etc.
  • If it's a corrupt file then a master reset won't help. Certainly worth a try. If that doesn't work resolving the issue if your device won't show as a device enabling you to manually delete the file then there are only two ways forward. One is to speak to Garmin Support and have it returned to them for repair. The other is to Google GarminCure3 ... and try to fix it yourself.

This seems to have been related to device battery being completely empty. I've charged the device and now it works as expected. However, when not on power cord the battery goes from 100% to 0% in a few minutes and the issue happens again - even when connected to a PC using USB. I would expect USB port would be charging the battery faster than it gets emptied - but this is not the case. So, seems like the battery is "gone". I've not yet tested in my vehicle (car charger) but will try.
  • Ah well if the battery is flat I'm not surprised. Don't expect a usb port to charge a battery, some may but many won't depending on what else you're doing. It's why you get a warning message in Express when doing a map update. Having said that if after fully charging it via the power cord it still immediately goes flat then your battery may indeed be shot.
