Installed Map File Size for Outdoor / Handheld Units.

I do hope this is the correct forum to ask this question? I have read on a couple of forums, including this one, that outdoor / handheld units, have a limit of 4gb to enable it to read the installed map. I have a Montana 600.

With City Navigator Eu. 2018.10 now being in excess of 4.25gb, do I have to limit the number of segments that I install to my unit during an update?

Thank you in advance
  • Depends. Express now splits the EU map into two because of the 4Gb limit so the issue shouldn't arise. How do you normally update the map?

Thanks for the reply, I have the earlier Montana that uses the older software, that seems to be sent in one large file. As you correctly point out the later units (NTU)? now split Europe into 2 parts.

I normally down load the map to my PC with express, then manage / de select tiles in map install so it fits on the internal storage of the Montana.

If the unit will read a file larger than 4gb, I will load it to the SD card.

    Thanks again

  • No it won't, you will need to manually split the file into two, or simply omit parts you don't need, I never visit Eastern Europe for example so don't load that on my handhelds.
