Garmin express does not sync properly

When I attach my FR935 to my Win10 computer, starts Garmin Express and asks it to sync it stops with the bar at 50% and says that an error occurred.. This happens every time. I upgraded GE to the latest version, 5.5.0.0, and still the same thing.

What is going on? There isn't exactly much help from the error message.

I managed to find the GE error log. The log says:

    Hello Staffann4,
Just guessing here. In the past when I had trouble with Express I had to completely uninstall it. Then I downloaded and installed fresh versions of Express and Garmin USB drivers. I was and still am using Win7.

Thanks for the suggestion but I already uninstalled and the installed GE. No change.

I'm glad I'm not the only person having trouble syncing Garmin Express with my 935 - about half the time I try to sync, it fails with the "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect" message.

I talked with support, and the only advice they had was to delete the syncing folders on my computer and on the FR935. Not much help - they really need to fix this, but they haven't, even though I reported this long ago.

Deleting all the sync data on the device and computer isn't a great solution, because if it hasn't synced already, it will be lost.

The only workaround I have is to sync to the phone app - THAT always seems to work. I don't know why Garmin Express fails so often this way. This doesn't happen with my FR630.

I've done the uninstall, do a clean install, etc. and it hasn't helped at all.

    GARMIN ARE YOU LISTENING?!?

  • Garmin Express is definitely not stable. I've 'lost' my connected 935 on a few occasions now, having to reconnect it each time. I did notice before I shut GE down last time that, despite device not being plugged in, it was synching. When I closed and reopened it, my 935 had gone.

I see the same stuffup with GE on Windows 10 and an Edge 1000. GE frequently reports an error on sync - if I sync again then it succeeds, but when I then go to Garmin Connect I find that the same ride has been uploaded twice, and gets counted twice in things such as monthly distance stats. I have to go to my activity list in Garmin Connect every so often and delete all the duplicated (or sometimes triplicated or quadruplicated) activities that are there because of this GE problem.
