Nuvi 2597 LMT won't start after Garmin Express software update

The software update said successful but when trying the satnav in the car it wouldn't start. Also it won't charge and when connecting to the PC again it's dead.

I've tried holding power button down and also right corner of screen but no joy.

Any other way to reset it?
  • If it really won't start, ie a black screen with no sign of life, leave it plugged into a charger for an hour or so as it's likely the battery is completely flat.

No joy trying to charge the satnav from a power outlet. No Garmin icon on the display at all.

My PC also cannot detect it.

It's just totally dead after the last software upgrade.
  • What device are you using to try to charge it? Note if the battery is totally dead then a USB port probably won't supply enough power, you either need a wall socket or the car's power cable, if using the latter ensure it's live, some aren't unless the ignition is on or even need the engine running.

If you're sure that you've given it sufficient time on the correct outlet your next step is to contact Product Support.

I'm the USB cable into a USB charger into a wall socket.

I've been googling and someone suggested opening the satnav and removing the battery and re-seating it. I'm tempted to try that if I can find a small enough screwdriver to get the screws out.
  • I wouldn't until you've contacted Product Support as opening your nuvi will void any warranty etc. Does seem as though something has failed, Product Support is your best bet. However you might first try using the car power cable just in case something is wrong with the other cables/charger you're using.

It's older than a year so I presume it's out of warranty. I've tried it in the car and also no signs of life.
  • Well I'd still call Product Support before you try anything else.
