BMW Motorrad Nav 5 not connecting to any computer

I got my new BMW with a Nav 5 yesterday. The Nav works OK on the bike. Last night I connected the Nav 5 to my laptop and it recognised it and I was able to update the maps onto an SD card in the navigator.

However, today I have been trying to connect to my computer to update the speed camera file and the computer does not recognise the navigator as being connected. The battery shows as being charged as soon as I plug it in to the USB port, but the Navigator is not showing as connected. I have tried connecting to three different computers with the same result.

I am running Windows 10 on my computers.

Any help will be much appreciated otherwise I take the Navigator back to BMW!

I have been having the same problem for months. Switched to a USB C to micro-usb cable and it now works perfectly.

Win10 is known for issues when trying to connect to mtp devices. Switch your device to mass storage mode and all should be well.

Microsoft released a Windows 10 update for the MTP drivers which broke the communications for all devices that communicate using the MTP protocol. In order to resolve this, please follow the instructions provided by Microsoft:

Interesting that they've acknowledged this issue, but many issues have been reported prior to the date of that update, seems Win10 mtp issues go deeper than this fix. Also seems reading through the 'fix' and comments from Win10 users that it doesn't resolve it for all. While switching to mass storage may not be recommended at least it's a sure fire fix :)

Thanks for your help ..but how do I switch it to a mass storage device when the computer does not recognise it and it is not listed on my device list?
